Wade Deacon Trust is looking for volunteers to join independent panels which make decisions on appeals for school places.
When a child is refused a place at a school within the Wade Deacon Trust, their parent or carer is entitled to appeal against the decision. During an appeal hearing, independent panels make decisions on whether to uphold or dismiss appeals. There are typically three people who sit on an appeal panel: one chair and at least two other panel members. Each panel will have an independent appeals clerk who is responsible for the administrative arrangements, and will explain everything that happens during the appeal, and what will follow. The clerk will also provide independent and impartial advice on the appeals process and admissions law. Panel hearings take place in the day, during school term time, and most frequently during the months of May, June and July.
Panel members will receive a payment for each day that they sit, and they will also receive reimbursement for travel expenses.
If you are interested in applying for the role of a panel member, please contact Lynn Derbyshire, Clerk to the Appeals, by emailing: lynnderbyshire@gmail.com
