My current role is Key Stage One Lead and Writing Lead at Whiston Willis Primary Academy. I am a qualified Key Stage 1 Moderator for Knowsley Local Authority through which provides external support to schools within the locality to quality assure and support teachers with their judgements in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. I have taught predominantly within Key Stage One throughout my career which has enabled me to develop a strong understanding of both the start and end points of children within Key Stage One and how to improve outcomes for all children regardless of ability and socioeconomic circumstances.
I believe reading is the key to engaging children within the English curriculum. This engaging curriculum enables children to embark on experiences through texts that they would not have the opportunity to be exposed to outside of the classroom. The wonder, awe and inspiration that reading can provide is the basis and foundations to children developing a love for both reading and writing.
Low levels of vocabulary set limits on literacy, understanding, learning the curriculum and can have a negative impact on the attainment of children within the National Curriculum framework. Through my role as Key Stage One Writing Moderation Lead, I aim to ensure all children achieve automaticity in the early stages of transcription skills so that children can effortlessly compose a piece of writing that demonstrates coherence, fluency and flare to truly showcase the wonderful ideas and skills that they possess.
