The application process is managed online via The Department for Education - https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-teacher-training. Essential minimal entry requirements include: Grade C/4 or above in GCSE English Language and Mathematics (if applying for a Primary place, GCSE Science Grade C/4 or above is required also), and a good quality degree in your chosen subject (awarded by a UK higher education institution (or recognised equivalent qualification). The receipt of a satisfactory disclosure certificate issued by the Disclosure and Barring Service is also required.

Personal Qualities and Suitability for Teaching
We would expect all of our Associate Teachers to be creative, enthusiastic and able to work in a team. Associate Teachers must have a passion for their subject/ age range, and be committed to delivering this in the classroom. They must possess exceptional organisational skills and have the ability to reflect on practice and a drive to develop as a teacher. Good communication skills are essential. Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they are able to communicate clearly and accurately in both spoken and written English. Applicants should also demonstrate an experience of and commitment to working with young people, however this can be in ANY setting, and not just in schools.
Additional Interests or Experiences
We are looking for enthusiastic and committed professionals willing and able to take responsibility for their personal professional development.
Experience of working with young people is a pre-requisite of the programme. Applicants should be prepared to discuss their insights and reflections at interview. Applicants should also indicate any additional experiences, hobbies or interests appropriate to the role of the teacher.
Experience in Schools
Whilst this is no longer essential, ideally we would usually expect candidates to have some experience of visiting a state school before starting the course. Observing teachers in their chosen subject specialism/age range, and/or taking part in working with pupils and reflecting upon the process of education is all valuable experience. This is something we can easily arrange for you between a successful interview and starting the course.
How we select our Associate Teachers
Application forms are carefully screened to select applicants for interview. Academic qualifications including predicted grades, personal qualities and suitability for teaching, and additional interests and experiences will be taken into account when selecting potential Associate Teachers. Selected applicants will be invited to attend an interview. Offers of places cannot be made until an interview has taken place. If an applicant cannot attend the specified interview date, an alternative date may be given subject to places remaining available. Please be aware that some applicants, if successful, may be required to undertake a Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) course, prior to beginning the programme.
