Wade Deacon Trust celebrates impressive GCSE results across the board

The Trust, which has three secondary schools and an all-through school, is delighted to have seen such strong and improving performance at this year's GCSE Results Day.

The results were hugely strong at Wade Deacon High School, where 44% of students received the top grades of 7 or above in English, which is broadly equivalent to the old A and above.

Overall, 76.3% of students at Wade Deacon High School gained 9-4 grades in English and Maths, while 62.1% secured a Grade 5 and above in both core subjects.

In a similar vein, Halewood Academy secured the strongest set of results the school has achieved, with an impressive increase in students crucially achieving both English and Maths at grades 9-7, 9-5 and 9-4.

There were also notable improvements across all other subjects.

There was also an improving picture at The Grange Academy where there was a tangible rise in the number of students achieving Grade 4 and above in English.

One student at The Grange also secured an outstanding Grade 9 in six subjects.

Hillside High School has also enjoyed significant improvement when it comes to core subjects.

Results in Maths and English have risen significantly, with a nearly 10% increase in pupils achieving a strong pass (5+) in both subjects.

Students at Hillside also achieved a higher number of top grades for Maths than national levels, with impressive performances in other areas, including Science, Geography and Spanish.

These results across all of our secondary schools have been secured despite national trends, especially in English and Maths, where pass rates have fallen to the lowest level in a decade.

Simon Corner, Director of Secondary Education at Wade Deacon Trust, commented:

"These are an exceptional set of results from the Class of 2025 across all of our schools, and the entire school communities can be incredibly proud of what our young people have achieved.

“I am very proud of all of their hard work and perseverance, and I am grateful to their families and support networks for their support, and of course, to our staff, who have selflessly dedicated themselves over past years to ensuring our young people can enjoy success.

“We wish our young people all the very best as they pursue their ambitions in the future.”

Brendan Hesketh, Executive Principal at Wade Deacon High School, commented:

“We are delighted to be celebrating all the achievements of the Class of 2025 in their GCSE examinations. Their results are a testament to their hard work, resilience and determination, as well as the dedication and commitment of our staff and the unwavering support of families.

“This cohort has experienced a secondary school journey unlike any other, with significant disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Remote learning, social restrictions, and the uncertainty of those times could have easily held them back. Instead, our students have shown courage, adaptability and perseverance, turning obstacles into opportunities and proving their ability to overcome adversity.

“Whether they are progressing to sixth form, college, apprenticeships, or other pathways, every student should feel immensely proud of what they have accomplished.

“On behalf of the whole school community, I would like to congratulate our students on their successes. They leave us with the confidence and skills to thrive in the future, and we could not be prouder of them.”

Matthew Deeney, Head of School at Wade Deacon High School, commented:

"I am exceptionally proud of the outcomes that the students have achieved this year.

“As a year group, they have had an extremely challenging journey and have had to overcome some really difficult and challenging circumstances but both the staff and the students have shown an unrivalled level of resilience and determination to achieve what they have done with this set of results.

“To achieve what they have done with this exceptional set of results, despite the barriers, really is something to be proud of.”

Ian Critchley, Executive Principal at Halewood Academy, commented:

“These results demonstrate a significant improvement across the school and are the strongest set of results the school has achieved.

“These results are a testament to the commitment of our students and the staff at Halewood Academy; I could not be prouder of the outcomes they have secured.”

Jamie Jardine, Executive Principal at The Grange Academy, commented:

“I am delighted with the achievements and successes of our Year 11 cohort this year. The school continues to grow from strength to strength with improvements in results and some real individual exceptional achievements.

“This year group have shown resilience and a strong work-ethic that will help to prepare them for future success.

“I wish each and every student the best of luck as they continue their education and I look forward to hearing about their future successes and achievements.”

Amanda Ryan, Executive Principal at Hillside High School, commented:

"These results reflect the hard work of our pupils, the dedication of our staff, and the support of our families.

"Together, we are building a culture of excellence and ambition at Hillside High School, truly reflecting our vision of ‘Excellence in the Heart of the Community.’

“Congratulations to all our Year 11 pupils – your futures are bright, and we cannot wait to see what you achieve next.”
