Who said World Book Day was just for kids?
It's been fantastic seeing such enthusiastic and committed participation for this year's annual event which has been so wonderfully celebrated across all of our schools - a massive thank you to colleagues for sending over photographs!
Amanda Ryan, Principal at Hillside High School, commented:
"Everyone at Hillside has enjoyed what has been an amazing day with some staff in fancy dress and many others wearing their PJs to school.
"The children loved seeing the costumes and just as importantly listening to the staff read to them in every lesson."
Jamie Jardine, Executive Principal at The Grange Academy, commented:
"‘Reading is so powerful. We know how important reading is for our students to be successful both in school, but also for their future. It is so easy in the modern world to be drawn in by television, the internet and technology, but for me, it is imperative that children discover a love for books and reading, giving them access to so much in the future. Days like today help bring reading to life, but this is just one part of a much bigger picture and focus on reading from Nursery all the way through to Year 11."
Gemma Mawdsley, Senior Assistant Vice Principal at Wade Deacon High School, commented:
"We have had different events running all week including; a Treasure Hunt to find out our teacher’s favourite books, bookmark making at lunchtime, literacy based starter activities in subject areas, book review writing which continues all week. Yesterday began with an online assembly delivered by Sketched by Sienna, an illustrator who explained to all of KS3 the skill and techniques of illustrating. Our staff dressed up – even Buddy the dog took part too and the students had a quiz to complete on the characters that were walking the corridors!
We had everything from Jacob Marley, Professor McGonagall, Miss Trunchbull to the Three Musketeers and the Cardinal! We conclude today with our Sparx Star Readers and finding out our total for the Read for Good Readathon that we have been running for the last three weeks (it stood at £620 at the last count). The Read for Good Charity provide books and storytellers to children’s hospitals – a wonderful cause and we look forward to sending over our donation."
