  • Mayoral visit to Weston Point

Mayor of Halton celebrates Weston Point Primary Academy

The Mayor of Halton has praised the “transformative work” that is ongoing at Weston Point Primary Academy following his visit on Friday 13th December.

The Mayor, Cllr Kevan Wainwright, officially opened the new facilities at the school for the benefit of early years pupils.

New facilities include a mud kitchen, physical exercise apparatus, a cycle track and fresh astroturf replacing grass and paving.

The facilities have been funded by the Wade Deacon Trust, local businesses: including INEOS Inovyn, Howdens and Viridor, in addition to the local community. The installation was completed by Playsound Services Ltd.

The Mayor of Halton commented: “After life and love the best gift we can give to our children is education, not just within a school environment but at home too. Weston Point Primary Academy are an example of how improvements to their school will improve the opportunities and the learning potential of their students.”

Principal, Helen Thompson, hailed the facilities as “more than just a playground; it is an investment in the futures of our youngest learners, a place where curiosity, creativity and growth will flourish.”

Mrs Thompson added: “This new outdoor area is also a reflection of the transformative change we are driving within our school.

“It signifies our aspiration and our belief in what our children deserve: an environment that mirrors the quality and high expectations we hold for their learning and development.

“We are very grateful to the Mayor of Halton, INEOS Inovyn, Howdens, Viridor, Playsound and the local community in supporting this project, and we look forward to continued partnership in the future.

Weston Point Primary Academy is a part of the Wade Deacon Trust having academised in 2017.

Gary Kelly, the Chief Executive Officer at the Wade Deacon Trust, commented:“The Trust unites nine schools across Halton, Knowsley and Sefton under the banner of ‘A Commitment to Excellence.’

"Our vision is that every school should be exceptional, with each child receiving a top-class education.

"We are excited for how these facilities will help young people to flourish as Weston Point Primary Academy continues to go from strength to strength on its exciting journey ahead."

Viridor commented :“At Viridor, we’re delighted to support Weston Point Primary Academy through our WeShare programme.

“Attending the opening ceremony was an inspiring experience, and it was wonderful to see the joy and excitement this fantastic project has already brought to the children and the community.

“This is a fantastic example of how we can work together to make a real difference in the lives of young learners and strengthen community connections.

“By turning outdoor spaces into inspiring environments, we’re helping to spark curiosity, nurture development, and build stronger relationships within the community.

“We can’t wait to see the positive impact this revitalised space will have for years to come and we look forward to growing our relationship with Weston Point Primary Academy.”

INEOS Inovyn commented:“We are delighted to support Weston Point Primary Academy and help encourage learning and development within the community.”

Playsound Services Ltd commented:“It was a pleasure to work with Weston Point Primary Academy to develop their EYFS Outdoor Area, thank you to everybody that made it possible and we are looking forward to continuing to work with the Wade Deacon Trust in the future.”
